As a result of this webinar, you will be able to:

  • Explain the function of a cooling tower
  • Describe the components of a cooling tower
  • Specify the critical steps for maintaining a cooling tower
  • Understand the operational importance of properly cleaning and maintaining a cooling tower

Who should attend?
HVAC operation and maintenance personnel, facility operators, commissioning engineers, physical plant operators, plant energy managers, HVAC contractors/technicians, engineering students, energy consultants, anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of large chiller components and operation.

Chillers operating on open cooling towers are significantly more efficient than air cooled chillers or other simpler chiller systems. However, open cooling towers require more maintenance than other systems. Unless cooling towers are properly and regularly cleaned and maintained, the efficiency of the chiller will decline significantly and the added investment in a high efficiency chiller may not produce the expected economic returns. In this webinar, we will review the basics of cooling tower maintenance from daily through annual maintenance, to see what is needed to maintain the efficiency and the life of the cooling tower system.

Course outline

  • Overview of cooling towers
  • Cooling tower maintenance by schedule
  • Water treatment for cooling towers
  • Annual cleaning of cooling towers
  • Cooling tower lay-up
