There is a need to characterize the plug loads in Minnesota office buildings, identify specific strategies for reducing these loads, and prioritize the strategies based on their potential to help utilities achieve Minnesota’s energy savings goal.

As a result, we have been awarded a Conservation Applied Research and Development (CARD) grant to accomplish these objectives. This project will examine a broad set of issues and strategies, and will focus on measuring electrical loads of office equipment such as computers, monitors, kitchenette equipment, and copiers.

The CARD program is managed by the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Division of Energy Resources.
