software user
As a result of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Discuss the building blocks of the text-based EnergyPlus™ input file—the syntax, relationships, and architecture of input objects.
  • Create, run, and debug EnegyPlus models.
  • Organize EnergyPlus input objects, input and output files, documentation, and software tools.
  • Use available EnergyPlus resources to find information on your own.

Who should attend?
Illinois-based building designers, architects, energy modelers, and engineers with an interest and desire to better understand EnergyPlus.

Attendees are expected to bring their own laptops to the workshop along with installed software. Software requirements will be provided to those registered one week prior to the workshop.

EnergyPlus offers advanced simulation capabilities with great accuracy and flexibility, however, this complicated engineering software can be a challenge to learn. Do you know how to create, run, and debug EnergyPlus models proficiently? Join us for a two-day workshop loaded with demonstrations and hands-on exercises to find out. We’ll get you up-to-speed on EnergyPlus as efficiently as possible. First, we’ll cover geometry and internal load fundamentals, then quickly move on to more advanced topics such as HVAC systems and controls. The complexities of the EnergyPlus syntax, input and output files, documentation, and essential software tools including the Euclid Extension for SketchUp will be reviewed. Most importantly, you’ll leave with the knowledge and resources to teach yourself going forward.

ComEd® Energy Efficiency Program new construction offering

Building Energy Efficiency
The ComEd Energy Efficiency Program new construction offering provides technical assistance and financial incentives to encourage design teams and building owners to surpass standard practices and exceed energy code requirements. The best time to identify high performance building design strategies and technologies is at the beginning of the design process. Applications must be submitted early in design to qualify for the program (pre-design or schematic design is best).

Funds are limited and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. ComEd Energy Efficiency Program is funded by ComEd customers in compliance with state law.
