Power quality solutions in industrial facilities

Join us to gain a solid understanding of electrical power quality and its impact in facilities. You’ll learn about common power quality disturbances and their origins, as well as how to improve power quality, immunize equipment and control disturbances. We’ll explain how to determine whether electrical supplies and equipment are operating within industry standards and how to distinguish between power quality disturbances that are normal and those that are not. In addition, we’ll discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different types of power quality solutions, as well as protective equipment for disturbances.

This course will be interactive and attendees will be asked to work in groups to design solutions to power quality problems and questions posed by the instructor. Before the course begins, a survey will be emailed to attendees regarding the types of power quality problems they experience. This will be used as talking points to review trends from the audience. An optional substation tour will conclude this training.

As a result of this course, you will be able to:

  • Discuss common power quality voltage disturbances, origins, impacts and solutions.
  • Evaluate various power quality mitigation strategies and their associated advantages and disadvantages.
  • Recognize features that create a safe and secure substation.
  • Explain the effects of power quality equipment on different types of electric equipment.


    Who should attend?
    Electricians, engineers, operators, contractors, facility managers, account managers and representatives, electrical service planners, new construction workers and anyone involved in operating or managing electrical equipment and systems where electrical power quality is a concern.

    Agenda
    8 am: Registration and continental breakfast
    8:30 am–3 pm: Program (lunch and breaks provided)
    3 pm–4:30 pm: Optional substation tour including travel time
    The September 20 tour will be at N31 W22872 Green Road, Pewaukee, WI 53072. Participants are encouraged to carpool to the location and park on Green Road. There is a long driveway to take you to the tour.
    All tour participants must wear closed toed shoes with ankle support, safety glasses and a hard hat. If you do not own a hard hat or safety glasses, these can be provided.

    Cost
    The registration fee for attending this full-day course is $199, which includes continental breakfast, lunch and breaks. There is limited availability, so you are encouraged to register early.

  • Please note that in order to receive continuing education credits, you must be present for the entire training; partial credit cannot be given.

    AFE This program supports a topic within the body of knowledge outlined by the Association for Facilities Engineering CPE/CPMM/CPS Certification Programs, and should count as 0.525 CEUs (5.25 hours) toward re-certification. An additional 0.1 CEU (1 hour) will be awarded to those who attend the optional tour.

    BOC This course offers up to 5.25 points for BOC certified operators. An additional 1 point will be awarded to those who attend the optional tour.

    BOMI This course is approved for 5 continuing professional development points toward renewal of the professional designations offered by BOMI International. An additional 1 continuing professional development point will be awarded to those who attend the optional tour.

    WI-DSPS Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services has approved this course for 5 CEUs for the following credentials: Commercial Electrical Inspector Certification, Industrial Journeyman Electrician License, Journeyman Electrician License, Master Electrician License and UDC-Electrical Inspector Certification. An additional 1 CEU will be awarded to those who attend the optional tour.

    This course will not be pre-approved for GBCI credits; however, if you believe the content is applicable to your credential, you can self-report credits.
