Who should attend?
Facility managers and engineers; HVAC system designers, engineers and contractors; energy efficiency specialists; building owners; maintenance and operations personnel; energy and sustainability managers; and anyone with interest in power and submetering systems.
This half-day course provides an overview of typical power monitoring systems. Participants will be introduced to power monitoring terms and definitions and will learn the importance of integrating submetering into an energy management program.
Learn how demand charges, power factor and load factors impact system operation. We’ll discuss the operational and financial benefits of power monitoring.
Find out about typical metering hardware, their features, capabilities, and common applications. Get tips on installing basic to advanced metering techniques and discuss CT/PT operation and system types.
Finally, we’ll discuss typical software applications and functionality, including logging and alarming.
Participants will leave this course with a basic overview of the capabilities of power monitoring systems and best practices for implementing a power monitoring program.

Karl Kersey PE, CEM, LEED AP, CEA, CSDP, BEP, GBE
Karl is an energy engineer and corporate trainer. He has experience providing solutions and guiding clients to greater profitability while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions and conserving natural resources. During the past 20 years, he has helped hundreds of organizations increase profits by reducing energy costs with the application of energy management solutions. He’s commissioned systems for many well-known clients including: Apple, US Navy, GM, Toyota, Honda, Mercedes, IBM and Home Depot. Karl is the power quality specialist for Power Management University at Franklin, TN where he develops courses to provide solutions in the topic areas of energy auditing, demand response and alternative energy sources. Karl’s work is published in Control Engineering Magazine and Buildings Magazine.
Mark Frankosky PE, CEM
Power Management Consultant
Mark Frankosky, PE, CEM, graduated from Purdue University in 2010 with a degree in Electrical Engineering focusing on power systems. He started his career as an Application Engineer, providing power monitoring solutions to customers including commercial buildings, higher education, manufacturing, data centers and hospitals. He later went on to support government entities and help them continue to build their enterprise energy management system to report on energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions throughout all their buildings in the US. Currently, Mark works as an instructor with Power Management University assisting customers better understand the operation and advanced configuration features of their power monitoring hardware and software.
